Jessie entered the world in a surprising way, arriving two months early.
Despite our concerns about her prematurity, the doctors in the preemie
ward constantly assured us that she was merely in a hurry to come out
and see what this world had to offer, and that we had nothing to worry
about. They were right. Jessie quickly grew, and by the age of a few
months she was smiling, giggling, and acting just like all of her peers.
As a baby, Jessie was sweet, even-tempered, and friendly. Her blue eyes,
fair skin, and black hair earned her the nickname “Snow White”. After
overcoming colic and teething, she was a very easy baby, and delighted
in meeting new people and playing with friends.
One of Jessie's most outstanding characteristics is her inquisitiveness.
This includes an extraordinary interest in trying out new foods,
including ones that even her mother won't eat! For instance, at the age
of one she tasted some Indian food for the first time, and loved the
spiciness. At the age of three, some relatives returned from a trip to
France, and she gobbled down the smelly blue cheeses they brought with
them. Of course, she also loves the same things as her friends, eating
chocolate whenever she's given the opportunity!
Jessie has embraced her new role as big sister to baby Mika. She rarely
shows jealousy, and is thrilled that Mika is now old enough to truly
play with her. Just as she is patient and sweet in so many other areas
of her life, she is also the same way with Mika, and we all benefit from
that greatly.
Every day with Jessie is a learning experience, and we're so lucky to
have a girl like her!
